Memorial Day weekend this year turned out to be a beautiful time to be in New York City. Our wanderings around midtown included pilgrimage to Grand Central Terminal to retrace the footsteps of Scott's daily commute to Morgan Lewis at 101 Park Avenue. We then met up with our great friends, Hamilton Fish and Fran Rotunno for a delightful evening that included a walk through Rockefeller Center and a great dinner at a nearby French restaurant.

This trip was a first time visit for Arianne who was born in Colorado and the first time back for Lizzie, Harrison and Will. Since we moved to Colorado in 1995, Scott has had various business trips back to the city and Jenifer was able to accompany him a few times. One interesting phenomenon for Scott has been the random and unplanned spotting or meeting of someone he knows on the street or in a subway train or the like every time he has returned to New York. This time he spotted an old mail room dude from the law firm at the other end of a crowded subway car. Scott for some reason never forgets a face even though he asks "where does this go?" at least 20 times absolutely every time he helps put stuff away in the kitchen at home.

The primary reason for our visit to NYC was to tour the new Manhattan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Prior the dedication of Mormon temples, it is customary to have an extended open house for the public to enter and view the rooms and decor. After the open house, a temple is then dedicated and entrance is reserved for qualified members to perform sacred ordinances. The interesting thing about the Manhattan Temple is that it is constructed in and around an existing church meeting house that is used for regular Sunday worship services. This location is memorable to our family because we attended church services there on a weekly basis when we lived in Manhattan.

Even though Central Park is technically north of midtown, we have included it here. We had a great "trek" through Central Park on Sunday after church with the Belnap clan (all except Brent who had more church meetings). We walked from the church / Temple at 66th Street all the way through the park and over to the Belnap abode at 90th and Third Avenue. We saw many of the major sites from Sheep Meadow, the Mall, Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, the Lake, the Boat Pond, Alice in Wonderland, the Great Lawn and the Reservoir.
